TMS320C6416: TMS320C6416 Emulator Support with new Code Composer Studio

Part Number: TMS320C6416

I am planning the development of a SW project based on a custom target HW (already developed by my company) equipped with a TMS320C6416 DSP and I would like to use the latest CCS IDE. I read on the TI web site that XDS 510 class emulators will not be supported by latest CCS edition (>= 8 please confirm) so I am figuring how to replace my old emulators. Currently I am using XDS510 devices made by Spectrum Digital and BlackHawk but my intention is to get some low cost emulators to support on field maintenance activities (e.g. SW upgrade) and few faster devices for SW development and debugging. I started considering the following low-cost devices XDS110 and XDS200 and the high end XDS560V2 USB trace emulator but I was a little surprised when I read in the descriptions available on TI site for each of the above devices that all these emulators do not support C641x processors!

Now I do not want to buy something that does not work with the HW/SW environment that I am going to use for my project (which shall not change) so please could you help me in choosing the right device among all the available products from TI or partners?

Furthermore I discovered on the web page of the C6416 (http://www.ti.com/product/TMS320C6416) that this processor is not recommended for new design: is this device going out of production in the next months? Please having a clarification on this last point is very important, because the SW shall update the systems that have already been deployed to customers and I am not allowed to redesign the HW.

The P/N of the processor is TMS320C6416GLZ (is a SnPb BGA package) with speed grade and temperature range identifier code A5E0

Best regards

    Yes, that is correct.

    That is correct as well.

The discontinuation of XDS510 Debug Probes is not tied to specific device families, but in the case of the C641x devices this was coincidental.

The NRND status does not mean the end of production is near - it usually means that future development resources are not being committed to support the device in question. For a brief explanation of the different terms, check the bottom of the package search page (there's also a link to get more information).

All that said, your only choice to keep the maintenance of your device is to use a version of CCS prior to CCSv9. Sorry.
