TMS320DM6437Q: Questions on TMS320DM6437Q

Part Number: TMS320DM6437Q
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728

Hi Expert:

there are following questions on TMS320DM6437Q:

1. will it  be discontinued? if so , is there alternative chip?

2.DSP main frequency is controlled by PLL1(SYSCLK1), is it possible to lower down PLL1 by divider through configure the register?if yes, how to configure it?which register is related,is it ?

PLLDIV1

thanks.

    DM64x device is not recommended for new design, but will continue to be in production to support existing customers. For new designs, consider AM5728 or AM5718. Single/Dual core C66x 750MHZ; Single/Dual core A15 1.5 GHz; HW accel. 1080p60 video processing; 1920x1200@60 fps LCD and HDMI display; 1080p60 RAW, YUYV or RGB24video capture; 3D and 2D graphics accel.

    For details, refer to below e2e post:

    Yes, this should be possible. You need to program register PLLDIV1 at address 0x01C40918. Refer to below documents for details:

    DM64x datasheet (link below), sections 6.3.4 DM6437 Power and Clock Domains and 6.7 Clock PLLs

    DM64x DMP DSP user guide (link below), chapter 5 PLL Controller

    Note that PLLC1's SYSCLK3:SYSCLK2:SYSCLK1 frequency ratio must be fixed to 1:3:6. For example, if SYSCLK1 is at 600MHZ, SYSCLK2 must be at 200MHZ, and SYSCLK3 must beat 100MHZ. For details, refer to user guide section 4.2.2 Core Frequency Flexibility

  • Hi Pavel,

    thanks for your fast response and good suggestion.

    TMS320DM6437Q is not recommended, is AM5728/5718 compatible with TMS320DM6437Q?

    is it pin to pin compatible?

    is it the same power comsumption or lower power at handling the same tasks?

    is there some comparision summary between AM5728/5718 and TMS320DM6437Q?

    thanks.

  • Hi Pavel,

    do you have any recommenation for this king of solution?

    CMOS sensor=>> TI processor(inlcuding DSP)=>> LCD

    requirement:

    1.low power comsumption: the lower, the better

    2.CMOS senor:>=854*480,>=15 Frame/second

    LCD:digital bus, such as RGB, MIPI,etc.

    No, these two devices are not pin compatible. There is no comparison summary between these two devices, as these are quite different.

    AM57x is not directly compatible with DM64x, as AM57x is new device, while DM64x is 13 years old. You need to compare these devices datasheet.

    I would suggest you to open new e2e thread, and put something like "TI device suggestion" in the subject.
