TMS320C5517: Echo cancellation without DSP

Part Number: TMS320C5517
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: 66AK2G12

Hi All,

My customer is designing a video doorbell with echo cancellation.

I proposed the TIDA - 01589 and by analyzing the DSP proposed for echo cancellation, we have seen that this must be programmed and managed to use a suitable library. We need an integrated solution, with a dedicated chip that performs DSP functions like Audio codec with echo cancellation options.

Since we already have a microprocessor on board our product, going to manage even a DSP would be too expensive.

Do you have comments here to help customer address the echo cancellation?

Many Thanks,

Antonio

  • Antonio,

If I understand your query correctly, the customer wants to use a MPU + audio codec solution for the implementation rather than using a DSP based solution?  I am not aware of any Audio codec solutions with integrated echo cancellation function but it may be good to check on the audio converter forums to be sure.

Has the customer evaluated implementing echo cancellation on the MPU or looked into using a TI SOC with DSP and MPU in the the design . There are are quite a few software solutions available for a general purpose ARM to perform echo cancellation but they may not be as efficient as a DSP based implementation and will require additional head room. If they consider designing with a ARM + DSP  SOC then they can implement the echo cancellation on a single chip.

Currently OMAPL13x, 66AK2G12 and AM57x family of devices have a single core ARM+DSP variant which could be used for the design. Based on cost OMAPL13x may be considered.

    Regards,
