AM6548: PRU output of specified number of pulses

Part Number: AM6548
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN7497

Hello,

Is it possible for any of PRU local hardwares to output specified number of pulse train ?

My customer asked if it is possible for PRU to integrate a “7497” function.

http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/sn7497.pdf

The logic seems to input 6-bit parallel value and output the specified number of pulses.

I think it is possible for PRU to realize by 100% software.

I mean, we would be glad if you could advise about any of PRU local hardware to help this.

  • Hi Nambu-san,

Based on an initial look at the SN7497 datasheet, I don’t think this will be feasible on the PRU.   Or if it is, I doubt that 25-32 MHz will be achievable.

The PRU could be used to output a specified number of pulse train (depending on the desired frequency).  However, I think the "7494" function is more complex that that.

It looks like this device takes in an input clock and outputs a scaled version of this clock, based on the value latched into the rate input pins.  I can’t think of any IPs on AM65x that could be used to extract the input frequency.  The other methods I can think of would require a significantly reduced clock frequency and potentially have a higher than desired output clock baud rate error.

    Regards,
