TMDSEVM5517: Wrong voltages after smell of burning

Part Number: TMDSEVM5517

Yesterday, while I was working on C5517 evaluation board (TMDSEVM5517), there has been some smell of burning from the board. I’ve immediately turned it off.

I switched it on today, but the on-board USB emulator fails in connecting to the board.

Furthermore, the voltage on J10 header is 1.5V on pin 9 (rather than 3.3V), and 0.5V on pin 7 (rather than 1.8V).

Is there something I may try to locate the failed component(s) ?

    hello, look for any discoloration on the board and components.  You might also try smelling where the burn smell is strongest on the board to try to isolate where the short started.  Other than that, I would take an ohm meter and see if there are any supplies that are shorted to ground.  You could also look to see if there are any exposed traces/wires that could have gotten shorted.

    Hello Jeff,

    thanks for your help. 

    I've solved by shortening R331 by jumper JP28. Apparently, R331 (which is the shunt resistor of current monitor U42) was damaged, so that voltage drop accross it was much ihgher than expected.

    Now it is all fine (expect that, I can't read anymore the board power absorption by U42).
