TMS320DM8168: Multi stream and multi format encoding/decoding capability

Part Number: TMS320DM8168
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728, TMDSCM572X, TMDSEVM572X

Hi,

In my design i want to capture->encode->rtp-stream one 1080i/p input to h264 and one SD input to mpeg-2 simultaneously.

video fps for h264 is up to 60 and for mpeg-2 is up to 30 fps

and in other side another board with DM8168 does rtp-stream->decode->display those simultaneously.

can DM8168 do this job?

Thanks you so much

  • Hi, Rama,

We do not have any collateral or resource beyond what you see in the product folder. You may search the E2E forum for archived posts of previous discussions which may help address your questions. For more info on TMS320DM8168 support, please see the FAQ in

        https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/791/t/813421

As recommended on the product folder and in FAQ , please feel free to reach out the 3rd parties listed in them for additional support.

  • Hi Rex,

I see your recommended links and i understand that dm8168 is an old part and has more limited support by ti directly, so i expect that if anyone tested it in my situation give me the answer.

On the other hand i tested AM5728 and it hasn't any hardware mpeg-2 encoder and can't do the job for me and 1080p60 of AM5728 can't be tested with ti's TMDSEVM572X and TMDSCM572x boards (limited frame rate in the camera sensor)

so i need if anybody has a DM8168 hardware and an experience share it with me and other users bkz this information can't be reached by reading of thousands pages of documents and obtained only in action

    thanks and regards

  • Hi Rama

Ok, we will leave this post open for a few days , in case some one from the community would be able to provide you further guidance.

  • As a simplified question,

the DM8168/9 has 3 builtin HDVICP2 module and can to encode and or decode 3 stream simultaneously (correct if wrong)
my question is: Does the DM8168/9 can encode a h.264 stream on the first HDVICP2 and encode another mpeg-2 stream on the second HDVICP2 module simultaneously or not?
is there any memory/bus bandwidth limitation or common resource conflicts maybe in the context switching between h.264 and mpeg-2?

    thanks and regards
