CCS/TDA4VMXEVM: tda4vm flash emmc using uniflash

Hi Cuiqin,

I will try to explain the UNIFLASH method to flash to eMMC. There are other methods like you can use dfu-util also to do the same and for the filesystem flashing you can use SD boot itself. eMMC has a raw partition (boot0) and a user partition (see - https://git.ti.com/cgit/ti-u-boot/ti-u-boot/tree/board/ti/am65x/README#n242 ), with UNIFLASH you can flash the raw partition with tiboot3.bin, tispl.bin, u-boot.img and sysfw.itb.

Before flashing I would like you to run the following command from u-boot (boot from SD card or OSPI whatever is functional right now):

#one time only per board, to give ROM access to the boot partition, the following commands must be used for the first time
TARGET => mmc partconf 0 1 1 1
TARGET => mmc bootbus 0 2 0 0

If you have flash OSPI with UNIFLASH then follow the same steps, and modify the device to eMMC instead of OSPI.

Once you boot u-boot, then you can halt at u-boot and use the u-boot utilities to proceed. See section under u-boot flashing to eMMC.

1. Change bootmode to UART boot mode

2. Run the below commands on the HOST (Windows or Linux, use dslite.bat or dslite.sh accordingly)

HOST  $ dslite.bat --mode processors -c COM7 -f C:\ti\uniflash_5.3.1\processors\FlashWriter\j721e_evm\uart_j721e_evm_flash_programmer_release.tiimage -i 0
HOST  $ dslite.bat --mode processors -c COM7 -f C:\Users\a0230381\Desktop\E2E\flashing_faq\tiboot3.bin -d 4 -o 0
HOST  $ dslite.bat --mode processors -c COM7 -f C:\Users\a0230381\Desktop\E2E\flashing_faq\tispl.bin -d 4 -o 80000
HOST  $ dslite.bat --mode processors -c COM7 -f C:\Users\a0230381\Desktop\E2E\flashing_faq\u-boot.img -d 4 -o 280000
HOST  $ dslite.bat --mode processors -c COM7 -f C:\Users\a0230381\Desktop\E2E\flashing_faq\sysfw.itb -d 4 -o 6C0000

3. Change bootmode to eMMC (boot) and power on.

Hi Cuiqin,

The easiest way to flash the rootfs to eMMC would be to use the SD card boot mode. As from u-boot/dfu/JTAG.. it'll be very slow.

Please reset the u-boot environment too along with changing the boot mode to boot again from SD card.

Run the following on target at u-boot prompt.

env default -f -a
saveenv

Then reboot.
