TMDXSK437X: UART to view kernel boot messages

A customer wants to know if he can access the UART of TMDXSK437X to view kernel boot messages.

    Yes, you can see the kernel boot log and access the Linux terminal through one of the UART ports (I believe I used the port labeled "USB_JTAG", but it has been a while since I ran tests on the AM437x Starter Kit).

    I do not remember if it is documented, but you must push the "POWER ON" button to start the board. The button is on the underside of the board, right next to the SD card reader.

    The TMDXSK437X and AM437x StarterKit EVM look different from the product page and user' guide.

    In the product page of TMDXSK437X, there is an evaluation board in black PCB but when I click the user's guide it will show some pictures of a red AM437x StarterKit EVM. Are these boards the same with different PCB color and stand?

    The customer wants to confirm if the TMDXSK437X supports JTAG.

    According to Section 4.4 of the user's guide, the AM437x StarterKit EVM supports embedded XDS100V2 USB emulation through the micro-USB AB connector. The EVM also has an optional 20-pin TI CJTAG connector to support the emulation. This CJTAG connector is not installed by default. Other JTAG adaptors are available on TI's e-store.

    Does it mean that if he will use the embedded XDS100V2 USB emulation through the micro-USB AB connector he doesn't need the 20-pin TI CJTAG connector to support the emulation?

    At the time the TMDXSK437X was designed, TI was using the color of the PCB to indicate the revision of the board.  The pictures for the User Guide show an earlier revision of the board but the connections are in the same place.  

    The XDS100V2 is an embedded emulator probe which only requires a USB connection to a computer with CCS installed.  The standard 20 pin connector is only used if you have an external emulator probe such as the XDS200.  This also connects to the computer using a USB cable and connects to the  TMDXSK437X using the uninstalled 20 pin connector.  The embedded emulator has the same functionality as an external emulator so the 20 pin connector is not needed.
