EVMK2GX: 66AK2G12 QSPI for communication between two SoCs

Part Number: EVMK2GX

Hi fellows,

the TRM of the 66AK2Gx states the following:

"The Quad Serial Peripheral Interface (QSPI™) module is a kind of Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) module which allows single, dual or quad read and write access to external flash devices" (Page 3965)

So my question is, can the QSPI be used for communication between other devices (e.g. two SoCs) than memory devices?

The idea is to connect two EVMK2GX evaluation boards so that they can communicate via QSPI. However, from the schematics it seems that this is not possible.

But from my point of view at least the SoC should be capable of it.

Best Regards

  • Hi Johannes,

For that connect to work correctly one of the SoCs would have to act as the QSPI master and the other would have to act like a memory device.  The second device would have to accept the clock and chip select.  66AK2Gx QSPI interface can only drive the clock and chip select so it cannot emulate a memory device.  Based on that, you cannot use QSP to communicate between EVMs.
