TMS320VC5402: Does XDS200 work with TMS320VC5402?

Part Number: TMS320VC5402
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDSEMU200-U, TMDSEMU560V2STM-U

Team-

The product page for the TMS320VC5402 suggests that the XDS200 (TMDSEMU200-U) tool works with this processor.

However, the XDS200 page says that "C54x" is explicitly NOT supported.

Does this debugger actually work with TMS320VC5402 or is there any error on the product page?

Thanks, Best, Steve

  • Hi Steve,

I always assumed C54x was not supported, like what is mentioned on the XDS200 page. However, I seem to be able to create a valid target configuration for C5402 with an XDS200. So either it was once supported, or the XDS200 page is in error. I'll need to confirm.

Note that if it is supported, you would be limited for using CCS v5.x since XDS200 support came in CCSv5.x and C54x support was dropped in CCSv6.x and greater.

    Thanks

Just to clarify - I used CCSv5.5 and I did NOT test to see if I could start an actual debug session for it (as I don't have a C54x target with me)

  • The XDS560v2 (TMDSEMU560V2STM-U) is also listed on the hardware development page for this processor, but when you look at the description there it too says that 'C54 is NOT supported.

In other words, both of the tools listed for hardware development on this product page themselves state that they don't support this processor.

In light of that, can you please tell us what tool IS recommended (or actually works) with 'c54?

    Thanks!

  • The XDS560v2 seems to fall into the same boat as the XD200. Again I'll need to confirm.

What I suspect is that although it once worked, C54x is no longer officially supported by those probes (C54x is no longer supported in general).

Debug probes most commonly used with C54x has been XDS510 and XDS560 (the original v1) class probes. I have definitely used those in the past with C54x.

  • C54x is NOT supported by XDS200.  https://www.ti.com/tool/TMDSEMU200-U

For C54x your best solution is an XDS510 class debug probe.  Spectrum Digital and Blackhawk were the leading suppliers for those.
