Hello All,

We are trying to configure Ser/Des for our Custom board based on dra76p architecture. We are having usecase running on HLOS while our capture link will be going to run on IPU1_0.

We have added pinmuxing changes on mux_data.h and dts file is modified based on ser/des we are using. Our doubt in here is where we need to add the support for SerDes driver, is it on rtos side as our capture link is going to run on IPU1_0 or we need to add the support in HLOS side of ti_components?

On which i2c instance is the SERDES connected? Also is this i2c instance controlled by Linux?

Depending on this, you could use either Linux/A15 or IPU to control/configure SERDES.

I think in vision sdk, by default, SERDES and sensor are controlled from IPU.

SERDES is on I2C5 and I2C instance is controlled by Linux.

Is it possible to configure SERDES on IPU i.e. on RTOS while instance control is in Linux?

Hi Shantanu,

No, if I2C5 is controlled by Linux and if it is also used to control SERDES, then it is better to configure SERDES from Linux. It is not good idea to mix them.

I have a doubt,

Previously we were using ISS Capture simcop display usecase and which is completely on RTOS. But as now Linux coming into the picture, it is not clear on how to communicate between sensor and SERDES through Back Channel ? Also, how the sensor will communicate in this case?

Shantanu,

Typically configuration channel is different from data channel. Data is over CSI interface, whereas configuration is over i2c interface.

Even when you are using iss capture usecase, we need to configure sensor and SERDES using i2c. But in this case, i2c instance on which SERDES and sensors are available is controlled by ipu, so we dont need to change anything even when Linux is included.

But in your case, i2c instance, on which SERDES and sensor are available, is controlled by Linux, so you have to use Linux to configure these modules.

Hi Brijesh,

Based on the above reply, we understood that data and configuration channel are different. So,

1. All I2C configuration is on Linux.

2. CSI-2 configuration is from IPU1.

3. CSI-2 and capture data is on IPU1.

Thus, we can use single simcop display usecase without i2c configuration to receive the data.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Shantanu,

That depends on the SERDES and sensors you are using. If they require to be configured, you have to configure them, before receiving data over CSI2.

So, we will configure SERDES and sensors from Linux and receive the data over CSI2 from IPU1.

It will work, right?

Hi Shantanu,

It will work if correct sequence is taken care. You need to create the driver first and then configure SERDES and sensor, then start the driver.

I am wondering if it is possible to configure them from ipu1. It would be easier then.

We will go with your suggestion then, we will keep everything on IPU i.e. I2C configuration from RTOS and CSI-2 Data from IPU.

We will use simple ISSCapture -> Display usecase

where all SERDES config we will add.
