TMS320C6670: Code Composer Studio Compiler version differences from version 8 to version 10

Part Number: TMS320C6670

Hello,

I am taking over a project that was started with code composer studio 8.1.

I see that at the time of this writing that CCS 10 has been released.

Has the version of the compiler changed from CCS8.1 to CCS10?

Are there any deal breakers that I should be warry of in using the older(8.1) version?

Thank You,

Forrest

  • The version of the compiler can be independent of the version of CCS. I still use CCS 8.3.1 on some old projects without issue (but not on this processor). Unfortunately we no longer have technical support for this device on the TI forum.

  • Hello!

Certain C6670 applications depend on MCSDK, and that one was tailored with CCS 5.something. However, if you managed to survive with v8.1, there should be no trouble for you to leap on v10, we doing similar updates regularly. You may notice fresh versions come with new revisions of compiler in 8.x branch. It's up to you to follow these updates, or stick with original compiler. For bunch of reasons we stay with 7.4.24 compiler, which can be installed in these modern versions of CCS.

  • Hello Bob, Thank you for the prompt response. I expected that the version of the compiler could be independent of the CCS release. That is good to know. Do you know If there is a newer and better version of the compiler for the TMS320C66X series of DSPs? If it is better to work with CCS10 then I would like to make a case to do so. Thank You.

  • Hello rrlagic, Thank you for the response. It is good to know that migrating a project from CCS8 to CCS10 is not a problem. Thanks Again!

  • Sorry, I have no experience with TMS320C66X DSPs.
