DRA821U: Inquiry about recommended power design

Part Number: DRA821U
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA821

Hello,

My customer found two reference power designs for the DRA821U as shown below.

  1. DRA821 system-on-module

      https://www.ti.com/tool/J7200XSOMXEVM

  2. Gateway automotive reference design

      https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDEP-01022

Please let me know why the two power designs are different and How the user should choose between the two power designs.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,

The EVM uses two PMIC ICs, and provides independent supplies for the MCU and MAIN domain.  Depending on the system goals, this may be useful to achieve desired safety/ASIL levels.

The Gateway reference design uses a single PMIC component (combined MCU and MAIN) domain, and is lower cost.

    Regards,
