uPP on OMAP L138 and no external clock

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138, ADS8482, OMAPL138

I have a problem with the configuration of the uPP-Port of my OMAP-L138. I want to read data from a AD-Converter that doesn´t provide a clock. Can I solve the missing-clock problem by somehow generating the signal on my own? I´m using the OMAP-L138 on the LogicPD eXperimenter-board and I want to use the ads8482.

Thanks for your help,

M. Werner

  • Martin Werner,

Welcome to the TI E2E forum. I hope you will find many good answers here
In addition you can find some details through the TI.com documents and the TI Wiki Pages.
Be sure to search those for helpful information and to browse for the questions others may have asked on similar topics.

CLOCK pin, or I/O clock, is obtained independently based on its operating direction.
    Source is synchronous clock signal.
In transmit mode, CLOCK is an output signal.
In receive mode, CLOCK is an input signal.
For more details, Refer the section "7.3.5 uPP Clocking" and "33.2.1 Clock Generation and Control" at OMAPL138 TRM(spruh77)

In addition that, Kindly have a look at the below wiki for UPP,
    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Introduction_to_uPP

    Universal Parallel Port (uPP):
High-Speed Parallel Interface to FPGAs and Data Converters.

UPP is designed to interface cleanly with high-speed
    1. Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs)
    2. Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs) with up to 16-bit data width (per channel).

  • But can i generate a clock, when i use both channels in receive mode? The problem is, that i dont get a clock from my ADC.

    Thanks for Your Response.
