TMDSIDK437X: TIDesign TIDEP0025, TIDU800a.pdf: Trying with/without an encoder

Part Number: TMDSIDK437X

Hello,
I'm reading TIDU800a.pdf. www.ti.com/.../getliterature.tsp

I would like to try and show it to my customer.
Can I ask some in advance?

Q.
Does it work without code modification, without encoders?
- Figure 5: the encoder is optional.
- The chapter 6: LEVEL3 works without encoder. (It sounded to me.)

Q.
Do you know any e-shop to purchase EnDat 2.2 encoder (ROQ 437, Heidenhain) ?
I could not find in famous e-shops.

  • Hi,

The demo was created with closed loop encoder feedback in mind. The lower build levels (levels 1 through 3) are meant to be used for debug to test the basic pieces of the demo individually before jumping all the way into full closed loop control.

I think the optional comment in figure 5 was meant to say that EnDat is 'optional' and can be swapped out with a HIPERFACE DSL or a Tamagawa encoder instead.

I do not know an e-shop for the EnDat encoder listed in the Design Guide. I am checking internally to see if there is another EnDat encoder that we use in our test farm that may be easier to find. I'll reply here with what I find.

  • Unfortunately I wasn't able to get any good information on where to purchase the EnDat encoder listed in the Design Guide (or any others from our test farm setup). You may need to contact Heidenhain or one of their distributors directly.

  • Jason,
    Thank you for your inputs.
    I understood.
