AM5718: clkout2 specification

Hi,

The AM5718 datasheet has the following description.
Table 4-30. PRCM Signal Descriptions
clkout2
Can be used externally for devices with non-critical timing requirements, or for debug,

Please tell me the details of this non-critical timing.
For example, in AM572x EVM, it is used as MCLK of AIC3104.
Does it mean that using clkout2 as a clock for audio is no problem?
How much jitter or skew does clkout do?

Shigehiro,

Jitter limits are not defined for clkout2. That is what is meant by "Can be used externally for devices with non-critical timing requirements, or for debug". I would not recommend using it for an audio CODEC clock if you expect high fidelity reproduction.

I understand that clkout has no defined jitter limit and it is not recommended to use it for audio clocking.
Do you understand why the AM572x EVM uses it as an audio clock?

Shigehiro,

The EVM is a sample design. It is not a high-fidelity reference design. The design is adequate for general purpose audio operation.

The clock of the audio codec is as follows.
For AM5718 slave: Oscillator
or
For AM5718 master: AHCLKX of McASP
