AM6528: 6 port PRU Ethernet performance

Part Number: AM6528

Customer is inquiring about the effective data throughput and latency of the PRU Ethernet when operating in a switch-like application where data coming in from Ethernet port and out another Ethernet port, localizing the data traffic.  Low latency and high throughput are key metrics

Regards,

Lawrence

  • Hello Lawrence,

We have not added PRU Ethernet switch support for AM65x as of Processor Linux SDK 5.3. If the customer wants a specific use case/cases tested, let me know so I can make sure it gets recorded.

    Nick

  • Nick,

The critical metric they are looking for are related to throughput and data latency from one port to another.  Is there a way to get me some numbers quickly to help the customer in their decision process?

    Regards,

    Lawrrence.

  • Hello Lawrence,

Right now, all we have is dual EMAC functionality (i.e. each ICSSG can support two Ethernet ports, with one PRU & RTU being assigned to each port. Ethernet traffic goes from the Ethernet port to the ARM). At this point in time, there is no switch code that I would be able to test in order to get numbers.

I will record that customers want data throughput and data latency tested when the switch code is eventually written. However, at this point in time I cannot guarantee a timeline for when switch functionality will be added.

    Regards,
    Nick
