AM4378: Industrial communication protocols

Part Number: AM4378

Hi SIr

After referring below document, we listed some questions and need your help

http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprach6b/sprach6b.pdf

1. for OPC UA

    a. it only supports in AM57xx platform.  When does AM437x can support this feature ? or it has any HW requirement ?

    b. the OPC UA is provided by Matrikon. Do we have to get licence from Matrikon and pay the license fee ?

2. for Modbus TCP

    a. Modbus has been implemented on Sitara processor, but not certified yet. Do you know how to certify Modbus TCP?

    b. We saw the Modbus TCP stack has open source code. Do we need to get the license or we can use it for free ?

3. Do you know whether the industrial Ethernet protocols supported by TI needs to send to industrial Ethernet protocol organization for authentication?

please advise

BR

Yimin

  • Yimin,

I will try to get marketing team to respond your licenses and certification questions.

Also wanted to let you know open source OPC-UA has been ported to PLSDK, see

  • Yimin,

Please see our response to your questions:

    1. OPC UA

    a. OPC UA isn’t restricted by hardware on AM437x. The software doesn’t exist for that device though since this was handled by Matrikon.
    b. Yes

    2. Modbus TCP

    a. We have not gone through any certification ourselves since our customers typically handle this one on their own.
    b. We would assume it’s free since it’s open source.

    3. In general, it’s a good idea to run your final product through certification with the protocol organizations.

    Regards,
    Garrett
