OMAP-L138: eMMC Secure Boot

Part Number: OMAP-L138
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L132, OMAPL138

Do L138 secure part support basic secure boot from embedded eMMC flash memory?

Refer to "Using the OMAP-L132/L138 Bootloader", SPRAB41F document, section 6.5

"The MultiMedia Card/Secure Data (MMC/SD) boot mode is compliant with version 2.0 of the SD specification and version 4.2 of the enhanced MultiMedia Card (eMMC) specification."

I don't see any specification mentioned about the secure boot in eMMC (in document "TMS320C674x/OMAP-L1x Processor Security", SPRUGQ9).

I just need to configure the BOOT[5] pin to enable MMC boot and follow the procedure according to document SPRUGQ9 to enable the secure boot?

  • Hi,

I've notified the team. Have in mind that responses may be delayed due to holidays in the US.

  • Kok Seng Ang,

Please refer to the OMAPL138_c6748_Gneric_security_user_guide available as part of the install from here:

    http://www.ti.com/tool/SECDEVTOOL-OMAPL138C6748

The details on boot modes, additonal AIS commands and unsupported/altered boot modes is provided in Chapter 3: Secure ROM Boot Loader. Other than direct/legacy NOR and UHPI all the AIS Boot modes are supported with Secure OMAPL138 devices.

I have confirmed from the ROM boot validation notes that SD/MMC boot modes were tested with PG 2.1 HS silicon. EMMC controller on this device is MMC version 4.0 and from previous experience we have noticed that version 4.2 is backward compatible. However the ROM testing was not done with MMC v4.2,  so we  recommend that you create a limited build with the eMMC parts and evaluate the boot before placing any production orders.

    Regards,

    Rahul
