TMS320C6746: Can the 128 kB internal RAM safely be used in this device

Part Number: TMS320C6746

The 128 kB internal RAM is partly documented for the TMS320C6746 device, but is fully documented for the xx47 and xx48 devices. E.g. the TMS320C6746  is stated to have a total of 448 kB of onchip memory, the same as the xx47 and xx48 devices. We have also seen on real devices that this RAM is available and usable. Can we use this RAM safely for the TMS320C6746 device?

Regards, Rune Knutsen

  • Hi Rune

C6746 does not spec out the 128K Shared RAM. This is only supported on c6748.

If you need that RAM , you will need to upgrade to c6748 device.

Recommend that you follow the datasheet for the device you buy and go to production with. Features not supported/spec'd are not guaranteed to work.

    Hope that helps.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Regards

    Mukul

  • Thanks for the answer Mukul.

We are buying a device with documented 448 kB onchip memory on the TI web. Can you sum up the individual memories that in total becomes 448?

    From the TI Web site:

    TMS320C6746 - C674x DSP Processor - 456MHz 1 C674x 375, 456 256 KB 448 SYS/BIOS DDR2, LPDDR 10/100 I2C, McASP, McBSP, SPI, UART 2 1 8.22 | 1ku 2

The web snapshot that you showed / in the parametrics table is incorrect for c6746. It does not have 448KB on chip memory. The datasheet and other description is correct.

    C6746 is 32 (L1P) +32 (L1D) +256 (L2):  (320KB)

    c6748 is 32 (L1P) +32 (L1D) +256 (L2) + 128 (SHRAM): (448KB)

I will get the parametric table fixed. Sorry for the confusion.
