Hi Experts,

My customer has been trying the boot from eMMC, however, it still does not work.
u-boot itself does not boot up, therefore, it seems that the boot loader specification may be related and they hardly fix it.

It is able to boot up from a SD card.
They have tried as follows:
created partition, formatted and then files in the SD card were copied by using fdisk, mkfs, etc on Linux.
the physical image was copied to the eMMC.
the disk RAW image (GPT config) was created and then copied to eMMC with a HOST environment. (ubuntu)

They tired but u-boot does not boot up unfortunately.

Could you please let us know how to boot up from eMMC.

Hitoshi-san,

Can you please indicate what PRocessor SDK is being used in this project. Are they using uboot from Processor SDK Linux or SBL from Processor SDK RTOS. If you provide us some detail on the usecase, we will be able to provide appropriate guidance for this eMMC boot issue.

For Processor SDK RTOS, SBL only supports booting from SD card or QSPI but the SBL can be modified to support booting from eMMC as the details are similar to SD boot. both SD and EMMC boot in RTOS requires the flash media to be FAT formatted but SD card can be formated on the host but eMMC, we don`t have a tool to format the flash from the host. So users, may need to connect to eMMC using USB so the flash shows as USB memory device on the host and allows it to be formated.

Hi Rahul,

Here is the update from the customer as follow:
EVM: EVMK2GX
SW: ti-processor-sdk-linux-k2g-evm-06.01.00.08-Linux-x86-Install.bin

The u-boot.img/MLO which was built with the SDK was copied to a SD card on /boot folder.
It has been confirmed that EVMK2GX was able to boot up from the SD.

The problem is that EVMK2GX does not boot with eMMC boot mode which is set by the DIP_SW.
The u-boot does not work.

They have tried three cases, however, they do not work.
1) The partition on eMMC (mmcblk1) was made by the fdisk in Linux after the SD boot.
The files at /boot in the SD card were copied after vfat formatted by the mkfs.

2) The physical image of the SD was copied to eMMC.

3) The RAW disk image was created by a HOST (Ubuntu18.04).
The files at /boot were copied after vfat formated.
The image was copied to eMMC with EVMK2GX Linux after the SD boot.

Could you please let me know the correct way in order to boot from eMMC properly?

Sorry for the delayed response on this thread a I was out of office for last two weeks. Can you please update us on the latest status on this issue. We are checking with our Linux SDK team on the eMMC boot status in the version of SDK that you are using but would like to understand if there has been any progress made at your end.

Can you also indicate the following:

1. What are the boot switch settings that you used with the EVM ?

2. Can you connect to the A15 core after the device fails to boot from EMMC and tell us the program counter value. Is it still in ARM ROM memory or do you see the code executing in MSMC. IF it is in MSMC, do you see any activity on the debug UART.

3. Based on the uboot patches submitted, we do see eMMC support added in u-boot:

Can you please share, how you formatted and partitioned eMMC and placed the u-boot and kernel and file system on eMMC.

In the ProcSDK U-Boot User's Guide, it indicates eMMC boot is not support on K2G, only SD boot.
