Selecting radar evaluation board for SAR

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDEP0045, DCA1000EVM, AWR1443, AWR1843AOP, AWR1843BOOST, IWR6443

Dear TI technical assistance,

please recommend what are the possible solutions for implementing synthetic aperture radar imaging with TI boards?

I have encountered different boards' combinations in published papers, like: TSW1400EVM + AWR1443 boost; DCA1000EVM + AWR1443 boost; there are special boards for SAR like TIDEP0045 - which probably also need some additional evaluation board as TSW14J56EVM.

I would like to have access to the raw I/Q data, and be able to program frequency modulation as FMCW. What are the most preferred options?

Thank you in advance,

Kind regards,

Margarita Chizh

  • Please give us a few days to check with systems team

    thank you

  • Hi,

If you are looking for an antenna that has good azimuth and  elevation angular resolution, you should consider the AWR1843AOP

If you are looking for an antenna that has best azimuth angular resolution you should consider AWR1843BOOST

In order to capture the raw data you will need a DCA1000 capture card.

    The sw is free

    thank you

  • Hi! Thank you for your reply.

I was thinking about 60-64 GHz range, probably IWR6443 ISK.

Do you know if DCA1000 capture card allows writing into DAC of VCO to perform frequency modulation of the transmitted signal and use the board as FMCW radar?

Do you know cases when DCA1000 capture card was successfully applied for SAR imaging?

    Kind regards,

    Margarita

  • Hi,

The configuration of the FMCW is performed using mmwave Studio tool.

The DCA1000 allows to capture raw data provided by ADC system.

The raw data can be used for SAR imaging

    thank you
