DAC38RF80: Maximum reflected RF power from load that the RF DAC can handle

Part Number: DAC38RF80
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TSW40RF80EVM,

Hello all,

I am using the TSW40RF80EVM to evaluate the DAC38RF80. I will be using the DAC to drive a variable load (across the entire Nyquist range of the DAC) where the impedance is not 50Ohms and potentially could have a very low return loss, <5dB. Does anybody know how much reflected RF power the DAC38RF80 can safely handle?

Thanks is advance

Khusro

  • Hi Khusro,

You will need to adjust the output of the DAC swing and evaluate with VSWR to see if the reflected power + forward power combined are less than the compliance voltage.

Compliance voltage is the recommended voltage range supported by either the positive or negative leg of the DAC output. Please adjust the drive strength and simulate the VSWR to ensure the total voltage is less than the compliance voltage.

  • Thank you very much for your answer. I think this is makes perfect sense and we will try this out.
