AFE7920: Intermittent Output Failure

Part Number: AFE7920

Tool/software:

We are using the AFE7920 in a 4T4R service equipment design. While the system generally performs well, we’ve encountered a rare issue where one of the four outputs intermittently fails to operate. This occurs at a very low probability and has been observed in only a few of our devices.

Here are the key details:

  1. The issue is not consistently reproducible but seems to appear randomly.
  2. It only affects one output at a time, while the other three outputs continue to function normally.
  3. The issue is observed in a subset of devices, not all units in the batch.

We have reviewed the datasheet and user guide but couldn’t identify a specific cause. Could you provide guidance on what we should check to diagnose and resolve this issue?

Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

  • Hello Namsik,

Please advise if you have PAP (power amp protection) enabled. If you have PAP enabled, then most likely some JESD204 alarm or high power level input may have triggered the power amplifier protection to shut-off the output.

There are C APIs available on the AFE7920 that can provide readout to JESD204 errors and PAP errors. Would you be able to collect these errors and report back?

We have some details that may be better exchanged not on the public E2E. We can check if local Arrow FAE can reach out to you to communicate at an offline level.

    Thank you so much

  • Thank you for your valuable insights and suggestions. I appreciate the time and effort you’ve taken to address our concerns.

I will check whether PAP (Power Amp Protection) is enabled in our current setup and investigate if any JESD204 alarms or high-power level inputs could be causing the issue. Additionally, we will utilize the C APIs on the AFE7920 to gather readouts for JESD204 errors and PAP errors and report back with the findings.

Regarding offline communication, we will coordinate with our local FA team to establish a suitable channel for further discussions. Once again, thank you for your support and attention to this matter.

    Best regards,
