TRF3702 on wired application

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRF3710

Hi,

i have a customer enquiry, which could be solved by using the TRF3702 (I/Q modulator) and TRF3710 as demodulator. Can I tie the output on a STP cabel (wired instead of wireless)?

Could i reach a distance of about 300 feet?

  • Viktor,

Thanks for inquiry.  I'd probably need a little description of the problem to answer this fully.

    Below are some general comments.

The TRF3702 is a 1.5G to 2.5G I/Q modulator.  At these frequencies I'd recommend some fairly decent SMA cable assembly (or equivalent shielding cable) if performance is a concern.  For a long (300ft) cable run at 1.5G to 2.5G there will be significant attenuation loss.  To counter attack that you may need a gain stage.

  • The application will need a data throughput of about 100 Mbit/sec. Lower frequencys are also possible. I think the TRF3701 would be a better choice to modulate the Data.

Is there a possibility, with or without a gain stage, to use unshieldet 300ft cable?
