AFE7799: AFE77xx & 5G

Part Number: AFE7799

Dear team,

I saw AFE7799 in ti.com and i have some questions,please help.

1 Can the AFE77xx series chip be used for 5G terminal design?

2 What is the carrier frequency switching and bandwidth switching time of the AFE77xx chip?

BR,

Susan

  • Susan:

The AFE77xx is intended for Base station, repeater, DAS, and active antenna systems.  Though functional for terminal design, the device may be deemed overkill for that application.

The carrier frequency is generated by internal PLL/VCO.  Frequency change is completed through SPI programming.  Taking into account the SPI programming speed and analog frequency calibration, the switching is not considered fast.  However, there are multiple LOs so that for fast switching applications between two states, each LO can be programmed and then switched into place quickly.  Further, there is an IF NCO that can change digitally quickly if carrier adjustment is needed within baseband bandwidth capabilities.
