AFE7920EVM: MIMO Testbed for Digital Predistortion

Part Number: AFE7920EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE7444EVM, AFE7769EVM, AFE7920, TSW14J57EVM, TSW40RF80EVM

I'm looking for RF MIMO testbed for Digital predistortion(DPD) for my Ph.D. thesis.
From my search on your website, there are several different versions of RF sampling 4 channel TRX EVM.
(1)AFE7920EVM
(2)AFE7444EVM
(3)AFE7769EVM

I think AFE7920EVM is the newest version among these EVM.
This one has the fastest DAC sampling frequency and also has two feedback ADC which is good for DPD.
However, it is not mentioned in the manual that this EVM is good for DPD, while AFE77xx manual has.

My questions are
1) Is AFE7920EVM the newest version of Multichannel TRX?
2) Which EVM is most suitable for MIMO DPD purposes?
3) Do you have any other recommend EVM instead of above three?

Thank you for answering my many questions.

Regards,

Yunsik

  • Hello,

    Regarding your questions:

    1) Is AFE7920EVM the newest version of Multichannel TRX?

Yes, this is correct. The AFE79xx is the latest RF sampling based tranceivers

    2) Which EVM is most suitable for MIMO DPD purposes?

All of the devices you mentioned above have end applications in MIMO, which also includes DPD

    3) Do you have any other recommend EVM instead of above three?

These three EVMs can be used, depending on your BW and power consumption requirements.

  • Hi Kang,

Thanks for your answers. However, there is limited information about the performance of AFE7920EVM.

Especially, the AFE7920EVM manual has no information on modulated signal measurement.

I have the following questions to clarify whether AFE7920EVM is suitable for my research or not.

My research is developing MIMO DPD algorithm.

    (1) What is the RF frequency range of TX and RX?

    (2) Can I use the full performance of AFE7920 in AFE7920EVM?
(for example, maximum RF BW, digital step attenuator, and dual-band DUC/DDC)

    (3) Do you provide a GUI to control the EVM instead of latte?

    (4) What could be the maximum BW of AFE7920EVM with TSW14j57EVM?
I am asking this because TSW14j57EVM supports JESD204B(15Gbps), while AFE7920EVM can support JESD204C(29.5GPS), so the performance of AFE7920EVM will be limited to TSW14j57EVM.

(5)Can I use Matlab instead of Latte to control the EVM board? (I used Matlab to transfer data in TSW40RF80EVM)

(6)Can I get some modulated signal measurement results? If you have DPD results it would be perfect.

Thank you for answering my long questions!

  • Hi Yunsik,

We most likely will not be able to support the device purely on a research level. You can request more details of this device by requesting information on the AFE7920 web page. Our business department will collect some information and business opportunity from you and get back.
