TRF3722: Storage Temperature

Part Number: TRF3722

TRF3722 DS specifies the lowest storage temperature (Tstg) down to -40 degree C, which is same as the lowest operational temperature.  Is it possible to provide information about the test model that is used to generate such specification?  And does TRF3722 have a variation that can be stored at or below -55 degree C?

thanks...

  • Hello Hao,

You may need to refer to the JEDEC standards referred within these app notes (links below). The TRF3722 has MSL level of Level-2-260C-1 YEAR. Based on brief reading of the app note, I think the key is the moisture control at lower temperatures as long as the temperature is within -30 degrees.

  • Thanks for kindly messages. My question is about the storage of a finish product that uses TRF3722. Our design goal is to make sure no damage to the product at "<= -55 degree C". Therefore we require every component in the product shall be able to expose to that tough environment safely.
  • Hello Hao,

I can check with our quality team about the storage rating and the qualification process. I am fairly certain that the final outcome is that we still recommend to keep it above -40C per the datasheet limit. I can get back to you.

  • Hello Hao,

I checked with the quality team and they do not have qualification data to support storage temperature below -40C. Therefore, TI cannot recommend -55C storage temperature.

He mentioned that storing the device at colder temperature below -40C may create more stress to the package material such as mold compound, lead frame, and bound wires as these materials are manufactured at higher temperature. Going to much colder temperature beyond the limit will cause material contraction and create mechanical stress which we cannot recommend doing so.
