FDC2112: Do you have suggestion for beginner on how to quick design the sensing pad for approximity sensing

Dear expert,

My customer planning to add proximity sensing feature to Mobile Hotspot. The EE is similar to the picture as below.

Do you have some suggestion on how to design seseing coper pad? The Max sesing distance is 20cm

    Hello Aaron,

    We use a range of materials for the sensor- from copper tape to aluminum cutouts to polygons routed on the PCB. First, we want to being the sensor closer to the product surface to minimize any physical offsets. The highest measurement resolution occurs closest to the sensor.

    Using a copper pad on a PCB trace is our generally preferred implementation. The shape of the sensor pad is not too critical - a circle or square of the same area will have pretty similar sensing performance.
