FDC1004EVM: Not Connected. But works on different computer with same sensingsolution version

Part Number: FDC1004EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004, FDC2114

Dear all

I have two FDC1004EVM. Both work on my colleagues computer, but not on my computer. Both computers have windows 10.

We both use Sensing Solutions EVM GUI-1.9.4 version.

On my computer the sensing solution software always shows "Not Connected" I manually added the driver for the FDC1004EVM. I already lost some time but still can't find out why it is not working. Since the boards work on my

Can you please help me. Highly appreciated.  I don't understand, why it would not connect no my computer and feeling desperate about that.

Best wishes,
Matthias

  • Hello Matthias,

I have seen this happen when the driver is not properly installed on the PC. When you plug in the EVM, do you see a device labeled "EVM" on the COM Ports listed in the Device manager?

  • Hi Chris

Thanks for your reply. It shows EVM. The manual says that the driver installation should pop up during the sening solution installation. This was not the case. I had to install the driver manually under device manager COM5 -> Update driver -> browse my computer for driver software. Then I selected "C:\ti\Sensing Solutions EVM GUI-1.9.4\EVM Driver" . After that it showed EVM, but still it does not work.

Only different I did was first installing sensing solution to a custom folder in C:\. But then deinstalled it and resinstalled using the suggested path (C:\ti\Sensing Solutions EVM GUI-1.9.4\).

Do you know what else might be the problem? Heard ".net" might be also a problem?

    Any help appreciated,

    Best wishes,
    Matthias
  • Hello Matthias,

Unfortunately, the GUI is a bit sensitive to the install process. Have you rebooted the PC after the install? Also, please to try to run the GUI in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

  • Hello Matthias,

I haven't heard anything on this for a while. Is your problem resolved?

    Regards,

    ChrisO
  • Hi Chris

Thanks for keeping track with my post. Unfortunately rebooting did not help nor running it in compatibility mode for windows 7. I started to use the old software called fdc1004, but it is less convenient compared to the new softwar.

However thanks to your new reply I tried different settings and it works for Compatibility mode: Windows XP (Serivce Pack 3) !

For now all good. Thanks for your help. If I would face difficulties I'd contact you or post something new.

Thank you again and all the best,

    Regards,

    Matthias

  • Hi!

Could you please share that software or the download link with me? I`m having the same connection issue in my FDC2114 EVM, and I would like to try your solution, but in TI page i can only find the newest version.

Thanks in advance for your help, i would appreciate it a lot. Regards,

  • Hi Marco Casilla

Did you try sensing solution with different compatibility modes? If you don't know how to do that check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KNLP3T5cic

For me sensing solution worked with compatibility mode for windows XP service pack 3.

The program I mentioned the following:

    FDC1004 EVM GUI

    Application Version: 0.0.0.7

    Copyright c Texas Instruments, Inc.

I am not sure if I can just share it. Please ask a TI employee like Chris Oberhauser if you can have it or if it is okay to just share it.

    Good luck,
    Matthias

    Best wishes,
    Matthias

  • Dear all,

I had the same problem. Combination of EVM GUI v1.9.4 and FDC1004EVM. In my case the solution was simpler than you would thought.

Just try to run the EVM GUI as administrator.

    Best wishes to all,
    Fran
