DRV5032: DRV5032 always ON?

Part Number: DRV5032
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV5023

Hi,

I would like to check if DRV5032 is always on? Or can configure as always on?

Thanks and best regards,

KH

  • Hey Kum Hoo Lee,

Thanks for you interest in TI. If DRV5032's Vcc and GND pins are supplied with a voltage in between 1.65V to 5.5V, then the device will be powered on.

  • Hey Kum Hoo,

I should clarify my previous response. When powered on, the DRV5032 will update its output according to its specified magnetic sampling frequency (e.g., 5 Hz typically for the FB version). Thus, every 200 milliseconds the DRV5032FB will come out of a low-power sleep mode and actively measure the magnetic field for t_ACTIVE seconds (40 microseconds for all DRV5032 versions). The output will latch and will remain at this value until the next reading. This is explained in Section 8.3.2.4 with Figure 17 in datasheet.

Overall, this is how DRV5032 will always operate and it cannot be configured to continuously sense magnetic field and update its output in real-time or else the power consumption would increase. If you are interested in a Digital-Switch Hall-Effect sensor that is continuously updating its output then you can look into the DRV5023.

Thanks for choosing TI and post back to the forum for any further questions.

    Sincerely,
    Peter Iliya
