Linear Hall Sensor Type

Hi,

What's different for Bipolar, Ratiometric Bipolar and Ratiometric Unipolar? How to chose them by application?

  • Hello Che yi Su,

I recommend watching some of our training videos for "Getting Started with Hall Effect Sensors" which can be found at training.ti.com/getting-started-hall-effect-sensors. Specifically, I recommend watching videos 1.2 and 1.5.

As a brief overview of your questions, a "Bipolar" device is sensitive to both the north and south pole of a magnet, while a "Unipolar" device only responds to one direction of magnetic field. A "Ratiometric" device changes its gain based on the supply voltage. This is typically used with our Linear Hall sensors so the output of the device can can have a wider range with a higher voltage.
