HDC1080: Material for protective coating

Guru 19475 points
Part Number: HDC1080

HDC1080 Datasheet page-18 is described about protective coating.

Please let me know about three points below;

①I think that when coated sensing area, sensing accuracy will decrease, is it correct?

②If correct, is there test data for coated HDC1080 sensing area?

③Is there recommended material for coating?

 For example, polyimide, etc.

Best regards,

Satoshi

  • Satoshi-san,

    It is not possible to apply any coating directly on the HDC sensors, otherwise the sensing element may be damaged or be no longer able to measure the humidity in the proper way. As suggested in the datasheet, if any type of protective coating must be applied to the circuit board, the sensor must be protected during the coating process: in HDC1080, where the sensing element is on the top of the device, the protection can be done using a proper tape, that will cover the sensing element during the coating application and that should be removed at the end of the process. . Since the exposure of the sensor to coating without protection is not recommended TI didn't collect any data under this condition.
