HDC1080: Masking for coating during mounting

Part Number: HDC1080

Hi team,

In order to prevent dirt from entering the sensor part of the HDC 1080 at the time of mounting,

I understood that applying a masking tape is recommended.

 http://e2e.ti.com/support/sensor/humidity/f/985/t/572014?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=HDC1080%20mask

My customers are thinking of taking a similar approach.

Please tell me the following 3 points.

1.What is the recommended product number for polyimide film?

 2. Are there any recommendations or cautions about mounting and reflow after mask processing?

3.Is TI made evaluation board(HDC1080EVM) masked at the time of mounting?

Best Regards,

Kenji /Japan Disty

  • Hi Ohno-san,
    Please find my comments below:

    1. As mentioned in the post in the past the recommendation by my colleagues was to use Kapton polymide film. We don't any specific vendor to recommend , but if you look for "Kapton polymide film" using your favorite search engine, multiple good options should appear.
    2. we strongly recommend to do not hand solder the HDC1080 and with the automatic soldering process is mandatory to use a NO CLEAN flux.
NO CLEAN flux is a flux that doesn’t required to wash the PCB with acid to remove the flux. As you can easily understand the acid can damage/modify the sensing element polymer.
    3. No
