HDC2010: HDC2010 : How to implant the component in my system ? Filter is needed ?

Part Number: HDC2010
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650

Hello,

i have made an humidity sensor for iot application with TI CC2650 processor and an HDC2010 sensor. The sensor is on a specific small board to be mounted on the edge of the housing.

I have a climatic chamber to make tests with different temperature and humidity level with a thermo hygrometer datalogger for control (calibrated).

When i use my board and the sensor directly on the climatic chamber all is fine but if i put the system on a box with holes for humidity measurement the value is not good.

Did the HDC2010 can be uses directly on the air ? No filter ?

Did you have filters or other systems to make a box with the HDC2010 sensor and protect it ?

Did you know a packing solution who work fine ?

Thank's for help.

Pierre

  • Hi Pierre,

HDC2010 should work without a filter.
When you mentioned that the value is not good, I assume that RH reported by HDC2010 is off:
    1. compared to what other measurement system?
    2. What is the delta, if that is the case?

Since the climatic chamber results are good it shows that your SW is working and that could point that there are some limitations on the air flow going to the sensor in your box. This air flow is required for accurate RH measurements.

Are you familiar with the application note listed below that explains the requirements for such systems?

  • Hi Jose,

we compare measurement with a certified humidity datalogger. When sensor is outside our box  (without filter) value is correct and when the sensor is inside our box, the value is higher : +4%. (compare to ref).

I think this issue is due the lack of air flow! I read the snaa297 datasheet and we try to respect positions and openings in the housing.

You say : no filter needed : We can use sensor directly on the air and it won't be damaged ? (long time use) ...

  • Hi Pierre,
Glad to know that the application note helped you to optimize your system.
A filter may be recommended depending on the level of exposure to aggressive environments. However in a well designed enclosure with opening for air flow but protecting the sensor at the same time is not required. It's a system level requirement, not a HDC2010 one.
