HDC1080: Is I2C protpcol between HDC1080 and HDC2080 the same?

Part Number: HDC1080
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HDC2080,

Dear Sir,

Is  I2C protpcol between HDC1080 and HDC2080 the same?

Another question:

Why did TI introduce HDC2080 after HDC1080?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Ronald

  • Hello Ronald,

The I2C protocol between the HDC1080 and the HDC2080 are compatible. However, the HDC2080  uses single byte registers and the HDC1080 uses two-byte registers. The register mapping has also changed with the HDC2080 in order to accommodate the additional features it has, and the 2080 has a second available slave address which depends on the connection of the ADDR pin.

To answer your second question, the HDC2080 was introduced as a lower power humidity sensing option and has improved performance over the 1080. The 2080 also includes programmable temperature and humidity thresholds, can be used with a 1.8V supply (more compatible with battery operated systems),  and has a configurable interrupt.
