LDC1000: Calculating resolution

Part Number: LDC1000

Hello experts,

I use the LDC1000EVM with a customer coil.

For my work I want to calculate the effective resolution of the RP Measurement and the L Measurement.

So my Question is how can I do it?

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

André

  • Hi Andre,

The Rp measurement resolution is 15bits between the programmed Rp min and Rp max values. It is not uniformly distributed, so take a look at Figure 10 for a good graph. The LDC1000 can give about 10bits of useful resolution across the Rp measurement range with the Maximum Response Time setting of 6144.

As for the L measurement resolution, it is a function of the reference frequency -use the maximum 8MHz for best resolution. The LDC1000 counts the number of reference clock cycles in the conversion interval, and it can discern a delta of 1 count shift; so the resolution is 1/ODR output value.
