AWR1243: What's the difference when selecting AWR1243 or AWR1443 in Uniflash to burn the spi flash?

Part Number: AWR1243
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1443, UNIFLASH, ,

Hi,

What's the difference when select AWR1243 or AWR1443 in Uniflash to burn the spi flash?

I have one AR1243 ES1.0 EVM and I tried to burn the bss/mss binary (DFP 0.6 version) on spi flash, then to use Radar studio v1.7.4. And I got below result.

1. Using Uniflash to flash the spi flash by selecting AWR1243. Then it is ok to connect SPI in radar studio, but RF power up time out.

1. Using Uniflash to flash the spi flash by selecting AWR1443. Then it is ok to connect SPI in radar studio, but RF power up ok and following configures in radar studio all work ok.

So I think there should be some difference when using Uniflash to burn spi flash. Would you pls kindly advise? The reason I asked the question is that customer uses radar studio to burn the spi flash on their own AWR1243 ES1.0 board and met RF power up time out issue when using radar studio.

  • Hello Chris,

You will need to select the "ar1xxx_config.bin"($mmwave-dfp-install(0.6)\firmware\) also along with the BSS and MSS firmware files when flashing the AWR1243BOOST using the Uniflash.

But in the case of AWR1443, the Uniflash takes care of flashing the ar1xxx_config.bin internally .

We will have mention this in the user guide of the future Uniflash releases or will modify the Uniflash to take care of flashing the ar1xxx_config.bin file for AWR1243 just like AWR1443 devices.

It is also recommended to move to latest version of the DFP(0.07.00 ) for your development.

    Thanks,

    Raghu

  • Raghu,

Thanks. Adding ar1xxx_config.bin in Uniflash solved the problem when selecting awr1243.
  • Raghu,

If customer is using AWR1443 ES2.0 chip, should they use the configure file at C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_00_07_00_04\firmware \xwr12xx_memswap.bin?
  • Chris,

For AWR1443 ES2.0 there is no need to use the xwr12xx_memswap.bin as Uniflash already takes care of flashing this binary file for the AWR1443 devices.

    Thanks,

    Raghu

  • Raghu,

How about AWR1243 ES2.0? Should customer use the configure file at C:\ti\mmwave_dfp_00_07_00_04\firmware \xwr12xx_memswap.bin?
  • Chris,
The xwr12xx_memswap.bin needs to be selected along with MSS and radarss firmware files for the AWR1243 ES2.0 devices.
