AWR1642: The difference between AWR1642 and AWR1443

Part Number: AWR1642
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1443

Hi team,

The customer needs to get the differences between AWR1642 and AWR1443.

And the customer notes AWR1642 has a C674x DSP, not have the hardware accelerator and AWR1443 has the

hardware accelerator, not have the C674x DSP.

And for AWR1642, the C674x DSP is responsible for the Radar Signal processing. For AWR1443, the hardware accelerator

is esponsible for the Radar Signal processing.

Q1: So, what are the differences between C674x DSP of AWR1642 and the hardware accelerator of AWR1443?

Q2: For the C674x DSP of AWR1642, will it be more convenient for the customer's programming? Or be more  convenient for

the hardware to handle the data?

Best Wishes,
Mickey Zhang

  • Hi team,

Would you help me to support the customer's question? The customer is waiting for my reply.
  • Mickey,
The major difference between the AWR1642 and the AWR1443 is also in the on-chip memory that is available for programming.
The AWR1443 has a 576KB memory and the AWR1642 has 1.5MB of on-chip memory. With the C67x DSP available for programming in case of AWR1642 will provide the customer more flexibility and control over the algorithms they would like to develop for detection, tracking etc.

Using the AWR1642 would be more advantageous in case the customer wants to have more memory and have their own custom algorithms as differentiation.

Let us know if you need further information.

    Thanks,
    Raghu
  • Hi Mickey,

On AWR1642, the DSP (a C674X) is a regular processor, on which any algorithm can be written in the C language.

The hardware accelerator on AWR1443 has a fixed set of accelrators that can performa a limited set of algorithms - FFTs, CFAR-CAs, etc. Programming and sequencing the hardware accelerator is done using register sets. More in formation can be found at this location ' .

    Anil

  • Hi Anil and Raghu

Thanks for your support. But I cannot open the pdf file. Would you upload it agian?

Another question: What is the function of the ARM Cortex -R4F for AWR1642 and AWR1443?

Can the ARM Cortex -R4F be used for the programming?
  • Hi Anil and Raghu,

Would you continue to support this case?
  • Hi Mickey,

The ARM Cortex R4F is the master subsystem . Cortex-R4F Microcontroller can be used for  Object Tracking, Classification, AUTOSAR, and Interface Control . It supports Autonomous Mode (Loading User Application from QSPI Flash Memory)

The ARM Cortex-R4F is available for programming to the customer.

These details are available in the AWR1642_DataSheet and AWR1443_DataSheet

    Thanks,

    Raghu
