I can't understand the elevation estimation, can you give a more explicit explanation?Thank you.

    Hello,

    The Tx2 Antenna is positioned higher than the Tx1, Tx3 Antenna. As a result the signal at the Rx Antenna will all have an elevation component which is indicated by the red symbols in the above picture.

    This elevation information is then used by IWR1443 for 3D detection. Right now the angle of detection for the elevation component is about +/- 15 degrees on the IWR1443BOOST.

    This is a very top level description of angle estimation for elevation. If you have more specific questions then just let us know!

    let me join this discussion. How do you propose to compute angle of arrival in elevation then? In azimuth I can take an angle FFT over 8 complex numbers (padded with zeros for a finer result) and then analyze the position of the peak. This is illustrated in the application note swra554. In elevation we have two elements only, which suggests an FFT over, say, Tx1/Rx3 and Tx2/Rx1 meaning an FFT over two complex numbers padded with zeros. Or should it simply be a calculation based on phase difference as in monopulse radar? Thanks!

    Hi Akash,

    no problem. I found the source of the picture starting this thread in
    C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_01_01_00_02\packages\ti\demo\xwr14xx\mmw\docs\doxygen\html
    It explains also how to compute AoA in elevation via MIMO. Next to that I implemented the monopulse approach which nearly the same results.
