IWR1642BOOST: No figure can be viewed in the mmwave demo visualizer

Part Number: IWR1642BOOST

When using the IWR1642boost and the mmWave Demo Visualizer, everything seems to go fine but I can't see any data on the PLOTS tab.

Below are screenshots of my setup and steps. Ports:

Configuration in mmWave Demo Visualizer (downloaded app, not browser):

Message after CONFIGURE:

After "SEND CONFIG" - It says Connected, there are acknowledges on the console and sensor is started:

But there is no data at all:

  • Hi Juan,

After "sensorStart", it should have a "Done".

Could you please check the SDK version and the GUI version? it should match.

Also, you can try both SDK1.1 and SDK1.2. The bin file is in C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_01_02_00_05\packages\ti\demo\xwr16xx\mmw\xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin

If you have any further questions, please let me know. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Wesley

  • i finally managed to upgrade the board to SDK 1.2 but keeps doing the same, no done after the 'start' command and nothing is displayed.

  • Hi Juan,

Can you please check the hardware connection on the EVM? Pin: UART_TX, UART_RX, MSS_LOGGER
You can refer this link: e2e.ti.com/.../611295
    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Wesley
  • Resistor R136 in AR_MSS_LOGGER is not assembled, should it be?

(Edit) Some colleague just told me he was getting data with that same board previously.

  • Hi Juan,
Yes, R136 should be mounted. Could you please try to probe the MSS_LOGGER using oscilloscope?
    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Wesley
  • Sorry, the resistor was there (so small...). I check with a scope on R136, it's all the time at 3V3 when connected.

I had R166 and R169 shorted to see the AR_RS232RX and AR_RS232TX signals in J6 and yes, I can see communication (both lines) when clicking on SEND CONFIG TO MM DEVICE, but after that there is no more activity

when upgrading the board I just flashed xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin, is that all is needed?

  • Hi Juan,

Yes, you can flashed this bin file. C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_01_02_00_05\packages\ti\demo\xwr16xx\mmw\xwr16xx_mmw_demo.bin
Here's the setup guide, and you can try again. dev.ti.com/.../
If it doesn't work, can you please use your colleague's PC to try it?

    Thanks.
  • I tried on a separate computer allegedly without so many network restrictions, just in case.

    I followed these directions:  https://usermanual.wiki/Pdf/TImmWaveROSDriverSetupGuide.1805530920.pdf

But the result was about the same, it fails after no answer to the startSensor command:

So maybe the board is faulty, but why does it communicate?

    Any ideas?

  • Ok, sorted... it was my power supply with the current limit just above the consumption before starting the RF
