TMP006 calibration

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP006

Hello.

I am measuring water temperature in plastic box with TMP006 EVB(sparkfun) as below.

I am monitoring the temperatures on PC via USB.

After calibration, the water temperatures with TMP006 are -1 ~ 5

But real water temperature is 7.2

Here is my calibration table.

1212.1200.TMP006 S0 Two-point Calibration_Luo_corrected.xls

My calibration is wrong?

Why TMP006 temperatures are unstable?

Thanks.

  • Yongil,

Thanks for contacting us.  From the picture it looks like you are trying to measure the water through the clear box lid.  If this is the case that is a problem.  IR does not efficiently pass through the Plexiglas cover. So the device is likely trying to average the temperature of the lid and the surrounding area.  We have really only found one plastic material that is transparent to IR in the wave length range that TMP006/007 is sensitive to (4µm to 16µm) .  That material is polypropylene based material.

  • Thank you for your fast reply.

There is no the clear box lid and the device is over the water.

I measured the water temperature directly.
