TDC1000-GASEVM: Interfacing of GASEVM with BSTEVM

Part Number: TDC1000-GASEVM

Hi,

I am using TDC1000-GASEVM with BSTEVM boost circuit. I have interfaced both with Laptop-GUI, but i have not got any output. i interfaced TDC1000-GASEVM with TPS61175EVM, and i got output there. my queries are,

1. Do i need to change any hardware on BSTEVM board in regard to interface with GASEVM?

2. Are there any special register settings for GASEVM board, which should be incorporated while using it with GUI? (apart from TDC1000-HV driver EN 1/2 and TDC1000-HV Boost Power Enable EN)

3. When i checked VDD1 and VDD2 pins on board, i got zero voltage on multi-meter.

4. Here i am using normal transducers from "STEMINC" ( https://www.steminc.com/PZT/en/piezo-ceramic-disc-1-mhz, ) and not gas transducers!

Please help me in resolving above queries!

Thanks,

Rohit

  • Hello Rohit,

    1. No, the TDC1000-GASEVM kit is designed so that the two boards work together without modification.

    2. No, the TDC1000 is the same on all versions of the EVMs, so all of the registers remain the same.

    3. The VDD1 and VDD2 will only be active when the HV driver is enabled in the GUI and a measurement is started. You will need to use an oscilloscope to view the change in voltages.

    4. The external bandpass filter on the receiver path of the TDC1000-GASEVM is designed for frequencies between 58khz and 300khz. You will not be able to properly detect signals using a 1Mhz transducer.

Frequencies as high as 1Mhz attenuate too quickly in gas to be useful in most applications. If you intend to measure through a gas medium, a transducer with a frequency in the range that matches the bandpass filter is recommended.

If you are measuring through a liquid, then 1Mhz is a good choice, but the extra voltage boost from the BSTEVM is generally not necessary, so the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM (with a bandpass filter centered at 1Mhz) is likely a better choice.

  • Hi Scott,

Thank you for your quick help!

One more thing, can I have some pre-loaded register files for TDC1000_GASEVM? so that I can load that file directly and operate.

    Thanks,

    Rohit
