DRV5012: DRV5032 through hole package such as TO-92

would like to inquire about a digital hall effect sensor:


Our company designs and manufactures an IOT water flow system. We are currently using in our design your DRV5012 and its working well for us.


However, since we are replacing our mechanical design, we require a sensor that will have a through hole package such as TO-92.


We were unable to find in TI’s portfolio a sensor with a through hole package, that will have the low power properties of the DRV5012(down to 1.3 µA), and will be able to sample frequencies up to 2.5 kHz. The only such sensor we were able to find is the DRV5032, however it supports only up to 20Hz pulses.


Our questions are:


  1. Does TI offer any such sensor that we missed in your portfolio?
  2. Can the DRV5012 be manufactured in a TO-92 package, and what would be the MOQ to allow this?



  • Unfortunately, I do not think we have an alternative that meets exactly what you are looking for.  With any Hall effect sensor, the sample rate will impact the overall current consumption as a driven current is required to observe this behavior.  DRV5032 and DRV5012 are the only switch devices which do not sample continuously.  Another alternative would be TMAG5170.  This is a surface mount device which is sensitive to the field in X,Y, and Z.  It can be programmed to generate a switch mode output, and it can be set to operate on a periodic wake and sample mode or set to deep sleep for maximum power savings.  This device operates over SPI, however, and would require that interface to produce measurements.

    Thanks for considering to use Texas Instruments.  Unfortunately we presently do not have too many options for Hall effect sensors operating on only a few microAmps.  There is not another option available right now.  As for getting the DRV5012 in TO-92 package, I need to check with my management and I will get back to you when I find out what they have to say.

    Thank you, im in a bit of a problem and and find any other component. 

    We are a startup, and we are growing. i will buy this year 15,000 of them. and next year close to 50,000 and so on.

    if you could understand what will take to move it to a TO-92 package that will be helpful.
