LDC2114: Excel_FEMM_v1p28.xlsm does not work well

Part Number: LDC2114

Hello,

Excel_FEMM_v1p28.xlsm does not work well

It used to work fine, but after changing the PC it stopped working.

FEMM 4.2 is working fine on its own.

Open Excel_FEMM_v1p28.xlsm, leave the coil, capacitor, and target distance, etc. at their default settings and press the "Run FEMM" button at the bottom of the seat. Then the following message will appear.

"Error: Couldn't write to specified file.

Perhaps the file is write protected? “

I don't know what's different from when I was using my old PC.

Were any other special settings needed?

Please kindly advice.

Regards

  • Hello,

Thank you for posting to the Sensing forum.

If you are not seeing issues with FEMM 4.2 this is most likely caused by a change of settings on the second PC. Please try the following in Excel: File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Macro Settings > Enable All Macros. Let me know if this resolves your issue.

    Best regards,

    Nicole

  • Hi Ms. Nicole,

Thank you for your quick reply.

I made the specified settings, but unfortunately the symptoms were the same.

Certainly, the previous PC setting was [Enable All Macros].

I expected it, but it didn't work.

By the way, when I press [OK] here, I was prompted to [Save] as below figure. Set it to be saved in a suitable location with a suitable name. If I repeat this operation 3 times, I can get the same result as when it was operating normally. However, this method is very inconvenient.

Do you have any other settings? Please tell me.

    (Caution)

When I was asked to save in this window, I could not close this window even if I tried to close it without saving. There is no choice but to stop Excel in Task Manager.

    Best regards

  • Hello,

I have not seen this behavior before and I am not certain what could be causing this. My next recommendation would be to uninstall FEMM and re-install it in whichever default directory is specified. Additionally, you can download the LDC Calculator Tools again at the following link: https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slyc137

Please let me know if this solves the issues you are seeing.

    Best regards,

    Nicole

  • Hi Ms. Nicole

    Thank you for your advice.

FEMM 4.2 has been confirmed in two versions, old and new. I reinstalled it every time.

The default directory specified is directly under C-drive.

      New version  femm42bin_x64_21Apr2019.exe

      Old version   femm42bin_x64_21Feb2018.exe

The result was the same in both cases.

Excel_FEMM_v1p28.xlsm was working fine on other PC with old version installed.

On the new PC, I checked with both the old version FEMM 4.2 and the new version FEMM 4.2, but both were NG.

I am using Excel_FEMM_v1p28.xlsm which was working properly on another PC. Of course, the result was the same NG even in Excel_FEMM_v1p28.xlsm that was in the new slyc137f.

    I don't understand why Excel_FEMM_v1p28.xlsm doesn't work properly anymore.

Do you have any other good ideas?

    Best regards,

  • Hideki-san,

What are the Windows security settings on your new PC?
Do you have Administrator privileges for the folders that hold the Excel files?

    Regards,
    John

  • Hi John-san,

[What are the Windows security settings on your new PC?]

It is difficult to explain because the languages are different.

    Please identify from the icon.

This Windows security setting is basically "no action required" because ESET Security is enabled.

[Do you have Administrator privileges for the folders that hold the Excel files?]

    Yes

    Does this answer your questions?

I tried it on other PCs, but the result was OK. It may be a problem only for this my new PC.

    Regards,

    Hideki

  • Hi Hideki-san,

Since it appears that this issue only appears on your new PC, it will be hard to narrow down any system changes between the two machines that could be causing this. Is it possible to continue using this tool on a PC that is not causing issues?

    Best regards,

    Nicole

  • Hello Nicole-san,

It's a waste of time to solve the problem that's happening on this new PC at the moment, so I'd like to solve it when I have time.

I will use another PC for this tool( Excel_FEMM_v1p28.xlsm).

If you will have any ideas, please contact me.

Thank you for all the advice.

    Best regards,

    Hideki

  • Hideki-san,

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience. Feel free to reach out if you are able to find what is causing this.

    Best regards,

    Nicole

  • Nicole-san,

    Ok.

There seems to be something wrong with my new PC so far.

    Best regards,

    Hideki
