AWR1843BOOST: How to port Area Scanner Demo firmware from IWR6843 to AWR1843?

Hello,

I have only AWR1843 and I need to to port Area Scanner demo in industrial toolbox from IWR6843 to AWR1843. I know it's portable but I am little confused how to port the whole firmware?

Hello

We highly recommend getting the xWR6843 based EVM as recommended in the Area Scanner Lab to make the evaluation easy.

However porting between xWR68xx and xWR18xx is possible from purely code perspective, you may heave to additionally take into account the chirp parameter differences based on the RF frequency band.

Please see this migration guide available on product which would be of help : Migrating to IWR68xx and IWR18xx

Along with changes listed in above guide , using the correct compile target would be the way to approach code transition.

Hello,

I have made first two steps .

In third step "Update RadarSS firmware file path" in CSS Projectspec I don't know where to replace the xwr18x_radarss_rprc.bin with xwr68x_radarss_rprc.

We recommend that users use xWR68xx for this lab because the provided source code and collateral align with this assumption that this device is used. If you were to properly migrate to 18xx from 68xx with the assistance of the migration guide that was provided to you in this thread then area scanner will work. The key difference between these two devices is the that IWR6843 is at 60GHz and IWR1843 is at 76GHz. With regards to work needed to run Area Scanner, IWR6843 is minimal since we provide resources for this. IWR1843 will require you to perform the migration yourself which is more work.

Q2. Can area scanner demo work with AWR1843 device if migration done correctly?

In my case I am migrating from IWR6843ISK to AWR1843, so we don't need to apply this highlighted step, correct?

Correct the IWR6843 as well as IWR1843 devices both have 3 TX antennas.
The difference in frequency only has an effect on electromagnetic regulations. Depending on the application any given region might only allow 60GHz, but not 76GHz or vice versa or allow both. From a performance standpoint there is no difference.
I would just follow the migration guide and go from there. To be honest though if you are not very familiar with how our demos are setup these steps might now make sense which will be a problem if you make a mistake during the process. I would consider this document as "Advanced" it makes a lot of assumptions about what you should know before starting. I would highly recommend that you get a IWR6843 to test out area scanner. The amount of support that I can provide on this forum does not extend to walking you through the migration process step by step. You will have to use the migration guide and get it migrated yourself or use IWR6843 as is intended for Area Scanner.

Thanks for reply, I repeated the steps and it works well. Area Scanner demo now works on AWR1843, I would say that section 3 "Migrating from xWR1642 to xWR1843" is enough and steps are compatible with migration from xwr6843 to xwr1843
