TDC1000-C2000EVM: BOOSTTXL-TUSS4470 vs. TDC1000-C2000EVM:

Part Number: TDC1000-C2000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430F5529LP, TUSS4470, TDC1000, TDC1000-Q1, BOOSTXL-TUSS4470
BOOSTTXL-TUSS4470 vs. TDC1000-C2000EVM:
1. Is the ultrasonic received data in EVM BOOSTTXL-TUSS4470 (or in TDC1000-C2000EVM) could be transferred to the PC (for data processing/analysis)?
2. Is the EVM of BOOSTTXL-TUSS4470 include the MSP-EXP430F5529LP  (two separated boards)?
3. Is it possible to connect the TUSS4470 with a transducer above 1Mhz?
4. What is the DRvin-min(min.) of TUSS4470 ?   The DRvin-min(typ) of TUSS4470 is 2.4uVrms.
5. What is the S/N ratio in TUSS4470  and in TDC1000 ?
6. Do we have to connect two transducers in TDC1000-C2000EVM ? Is it working well with one transducer?
7. What is the uVrms (min.) of the received ultrasonic signal in TDC1000 or TDC1000-Q1 ?
8. What is the maximum Fout(tx) that TDC1000 or TDC1000-Q1 still working well? Fout(tx)typ. is written 4Mhz.
9. Is the power supply up to 5.5V in TDC1000 will cause less performance regarding the received ultrasonic data, in a comparison with TUSS4470 that its power supply is up to 36V?
10. Is the EVM KIT include at least one transducer (or even more than one!)? Regarding the EVM KIT of BOOSTTXL-TUSS4470 and TDC1000-C2000EVM.
11. Is there documentation that shows the POS & CON between TUSS4470 and TDC1000 (or even between BOOSTTXL-TUSS4470 and TDC1000-C2000EVM). we want the choose the better solution for our developed medical device in sounds/ultrasound waves (not imaging).
  • Hello Shai,

    1) The BOOSTXL-TUSS4470 GUI has the capability of exporting the figures to XML and the data in the tables to CSV files. The GUI has a data plotter integrated which you can use to replot the data you collected and export it as a CSV file, this would allow you to post process or analyze as needed. The TDC1000-C2000 can save the graph plot that was collected.

    2) The BOOSTXL-TUSS4470 does not include an MSP-EXP430F5529LP, this would have to be ordered separately.

    3) The max frequency of the TUSS4470 is 1MHz as is not able to exceed this frequency.

    4) We do not have a spec for the minimum value of DR_VIN_MIN just the typical value.

    5) The SNR is not included as a specification because the ratio is application specific. It depends on the transducer driving voltage, burst transmitted, frequency, distance measured. There is a lot of factors to take into consideration so it a little difficult to generalize this specification.

    6) The two transducers do not have to be connected on TDC1000-C2000 EVM. Just ensure that correct channel is selected. But it does operate well with one transducer.

    7) We do not have a spec for the uVrms minimum on the TDC1000.

    8) Recommended usage for the TDC1000 and TDC1000-Q1 is 1MHz-4MHz, device will still perform at lower frequencies but operates best at higher frequencies.

    9) The transducers excitation voltage is dependent on the supply voltage. A higher excitation voltage usually means a better SNR. But it mostly depends on distances and frequencies. Higher transducer frequencies will attenuate much faster than lower frequencies giving you a smaller workable range.

    10) The BOOSTXL-TUSS4470 comes with a 40kHz transducer to use, the TDC1000-C2000 EVM does not come with a transducer to use.

    11) You can review this Ultrasonic FAQ that compares some of the devices that we offer and what their applications typically tend to be used for as compare some of the specification differences: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/748143/faq-ultrasonic-sensors

    I hope this information helps!

  • Hi Issac,

    1. Regarding the TDC1000-C2000, how can the ultrasonic received data transfer to the PC in real-time?

    2. Can you recommend please transducers in frequencies between 500K to 1Mhz that are suitable with BOOSTTXL-TUSS4470 ? And transducers in frequencies between 500K to 4Mhz that are suitable with TDC1000-C2000EVM? Or we can buy some in TI!

    Regards,

    Shai

  • Hey Shai,

    1) I am not too familiar with the C2000 MCU, so I am not sure how to enable the data to output data directly on to the PC. It might be best to open a new thread for the C2000 specifically on how to receive the data in real time.

    2) We have a list for transducers up to 400kHz which you can download here: https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slac787, some transducers I have used with the TDC1000 would be Audiowell T/R975-US0014L353-01, Steminc SMD15T21R111WL. These are both 1MHz. As well as a Steminc SMD12T06R412WL which is a 3.4MHz. Unfortunately TI does not make transducers.

    Isaac
