OPT3101: Other than PIN type any other photodiode option for OPT3101?

Part Number: OPT3101

I am on my design stage of customized distance measurement sensor module. My target is to achieve 1% accuracy and 40m max measurable range. Regarding the photo diode part after searching on the  online distributors i found that PIN photodiode responcitivity is around .7A/W at 900nm. Which can not increase further but for avalanche photodiodes(APD) Responcitivity is 60A/W. But it need a  biasing voltage around 100V.  Also for APD noise will be high compared to PIN. But i hope increased gain shall help me for achieving 40m range. Is it possible to use APD for OPT3101? How we can protect the OPT3101 from the APD high bias voltage?

Also Is this APD help me for increasing the range and accuracy? Can anyone please advice me ?

The Rise/Fall time for APD is 0.9ns( Referring C30737MH Series APD from exelitas). So i hope there wont be any issue with the 10MHz modulation frequency of OPT3101.
