LDC0851Evalution Module

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC0851, LDC0851EVM

We are planning to develop a proximity sensor that utilizes the LDC0851.
First, we are considering introducing an evaluation module (LDC0851EVM) to see if the LDC0851 can perform the desired proximity sensing operation.
Please let me know the following.

1. How to connect the LDC0851EVM to a sensor (coil) that the user can easily use
What restrictions are there on removing the sensor part of the LDC0851EVM and connecting it to the coil in our product system?
I have read the manual for the LDC0851EVM, but it only describes the coil inside the EVM.
I have read the manual for the LDC0851EVM, but it only describes the coil inside the EVM, so I would like to check if it is possible to connect the user coil (the part I want to use as a sensor).
I would like to confirm if it is possible to connect to a user coil (the part I want to use as a sensor).

We would like to use our product coil itself as a proximity sensor to check contact with the end user's mold without using a commercially available proximity sensor.

Please provide us with the manual that we should refer to in order to conduct the operation experiment described in section 1.

  • Hello,

You can definitely remove the EVM coil and insert your own. The EVM was designed so that the coil snaps off and has a place to solder in a new coil. For the LDC0851, it is important that the sensor meets the specific parameters in section 7.5 of the datasheet:

On the EVM, the capacitor for the sensor is C4.

Beyond that, section 8.3 has some information on the different LREF/LSENSE coil configurations and reference target interactions. This section is good for showing how the adjust pin interacts with the target design as well.

    Best Regards,
