DRV5013: BLDC motor encoder design help

Part Number: DRV5013

Hi,

We are designing a 3-phase 5kW BLDC hub motor. While designing the hall sensor encoder, we are having some trouble selecting the sensor and sensitivity. If you have any documents regarding how to select the sensor please share. The maximum magnetic field we are getting is around 0.6T. So how much should be the sensor sensitivity range?

  • Thanks for reaching out with your question. The sensitivity selection will depend on the range of field input to the device.  At a peak of 0.6T (600mT) there is enough field to trigger any of the sensitivity options

The other concern will be the release value.  Assuming that we see a balanced sinusoidal input of +/- 0.6 T, then any option should work.  I would probably recommend using the lowest thresholds, however.  This will move the trigger and release point closer to the 0 crossing of the magnetic field and will help obtain the best phase alignment of the sensors as well as offer the tightest threshold range for this device for best matching from sensor to sensor.

    Thanks,

    Scott
